Intermediate Care Facility (ICF):
Intermediate Care Facilities proved care for patients not in need of skilled nursing care but
needing some personal nursing attention, medical aid, and a protective environment. They are
required to have a nurse on staff 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Nursing/Rehab/Skilled Nursing Facilities:
Facilities licensed to provide skilled nursing services under the supervision of licensed nurses.
Skilled Nursing Facilities are licensed by the Department of Health Services, and many are certified
for Medicare and/or Medi-Cal reimbursement. Residents are usually convalescing from a serious illness
or surgery and require continuous observation and/or rehabilitation. Skilled Nursing Facilities are
required to have a nurse on staff 24 hours per day.

Sub-Acute:
Facilities licensed to provide nursing services, but specializing in higher levels of care.

designed to restore and strengthen abilities.

Includes both companies that provide licensed health care services in the home and
companies who provide non-medical assistance with such tasks as bathing, dressing,
meal preparation and transportation. Medicare and Medicaid provide financial assistance in some cases.

Alzheimer's And Dementia Care Facilities:
Facilities offering specialized programs for residents suffering from Alzheimer's Disease or other forms
of memory loss.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Facilities are designed to meet the challenges that arise in caring for a
loved one affected with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Some of these facilities can also offer secured
perimeters for those patients who tend to wander.
